When I visited Memphis for the first time, the Civil Rights Museum was near the top of my to-see list. Not so much for the museum itself, but because it is located at the Lorraine Motel - the place where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. The balcony where he died has been preserved.
Well by the time my friends, sister and I had done some of the other sights around town, we only had time for one more. But there were two on our list. The Civil Rights Museum and the Stax Museum of R&B and Soul.
Long story short, I was outvoted 3-1 and we saw the Stax Museum. Which was awesome.
But eight months later, I finally saw the Lorraine Motel. To make it more special, Dr. King was assassinated on April 4, 45 years ago so there were a lot of other people there paying respects and leaving flowers. I didn't take photos of that, but just take my word for it.
