What was the point of this whole trip again? Oh yeah, it was to go take Jess a bunch of her stuff!
I had my fears about New York and the first hour there didn't help anything as we had to move heavy furniture...up a narrow staircase...in the rain. Luckily the trip improved mightily from there. We spent Friday in Brooklyn checking out the finer spots of Jess' new neighborhood - this mainly consisted of spending a few hours in a bar eating things with cheese before immediately going to a pizza place. Basically, it was awesome.
We then migrated to the Kimberley Hotel in mid-town Manhattan for the remainder of the trip where we celebrated being together as a family again by immediately stealing food from our hotel. This wasn't as devious as it sounds. We had a lovely breakfast on the roof and for reasons that I can't really recall right now, we thought it was free. Needless to say, it was not, but the workers there were either too kind or too shocked to say anythin to us. In our defense, we have had so many complimentary breakfasts on this trip that I guess we got into a routine. On the plus side, I'm happy to report that is the only felony we have committed on this trip...so far...
As you can see from the photos we saw some of NY's finest sights, but not nearly enough. Very much looking forward to going back several times a year. I learned quickly that I love New York as a city, I just wish it had about 50% less people. I also wish that the next time I go back there, that Rupert from the Late Show with David Letterman is actually open this time. I tried to go there twice - to no avail.
To those wondering: yes, Jess is doing very, very well and is happy; and no, she is not coming back anytime soon.
As for us, we ARE coming back soon - only one week left to go!
We spent Saturday afternoon rooting on the Giants at their local bar in NY:
As close as I would get to anything Letterman-related:
When you ride the Subway for 30 minutes you get bored and things like this happen:
Liberty Island is closed until July so this was as close as we could get to her. Totally worth it.
Dad and Jess enjoying the afternoon reception at our hotel while I was stuck inside doing an interview. Glad they had a good time:
Times Square:
Later all of the creepy characters in this photo surrounded me for a video and grabbed my ass. No really, it happened. We have evidence and will be pressing charges. Can't blame them though.
The GE building (aka 30 Rock):
Dad and Jess - not as excited to see the dinosaurs as me:
The Munso's with Teddy Roosevelt:
This huge sphere was at the center of the Natural History Museum - I was disappointed to discover it was not the Death Star:
The greatest painting of all-time:
Jess playing her favorite game at the Museum of Modern Art. To the right of this they had Pac Man. Why aren't they any photos of us playing it? Because this damn teenager wouldn't stop playing!
3D at the Musuem of Modern Art:
Jess and I enjoyed the stylings of the great Cold War Kids on Saturday night. Jess also got headbutted by a drunk guy. A solid night:
A Tourist in Times Square:
We enjoyed our hotel room a little too much...and I took a liking to this love seat in particular...apologies for the location of my right hand:
